Blue Origin LLC Senior Manager Vision Based Navigation in Seattle, Washington

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers , you will manage a group of engineers focused on the vision based navigation system for our landers. As the Vision Based Navigation team manager, your responsibilities in this position are twofold: You will directly manage a team of 5-8 members, who focus on vision-based navigation architecture for rendezvous, terrain relative navigation, hazard detection and avoidance, hazard relative navigation and cislunar navigation. You will take ownership of the people, processes, and tools crucial for the outstanding performance in these subject domains. Using your excellent skills as a communicator, listener, and empathetic leader, you will lead the effort of encouraging and growing, rightsized workforce; supervising performance, merits, and promotions; shepherding team members' careers through mentorship, opportunity matching, and technical development. Tapping into your expertise in vision-based navigation, you will assure that your team's work products meet domain quality standards. You will ensure benchmarking the team's standards and tools with other Blue Origin business units and with industry trends. We expect this will take approximately up to a quarter of your time commitment. With the remaining three-fourths of your time, you'll focus on technical contributions in the area of vision-based navigation, providing technical support directly onto one or more programs within Lunar Permanence. In this capacity, you will exemplify our best practices, balanced technical judgment, and outstanding work ethic. Minimum Qualifications M.S. or equivalent with 7+ years or B.S. or equivalent with +9 years of proven experience in engineering or related field, preference for Aerospace and Electrical Engineering Proven 2+ years of experience leading technical teams and/or leading functional groups Shown 4+ years of experience in development of spacecraft vision-based navigation systems with emphasis on terrain relative navigation, rendezvous and proximity operations, or hazard detection and avoidance. Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion Strong fundamentals in traditional computer vision techniques such as feature detection, image correlation, POSE, and more. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. or equivalent in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace engineering or related field Strong fundamentals in spacecraft flight dynamics, avionics, and on-orbit operations.
